The following videos are all clips from Behind the Wall by Daniel Herskedal.
This incredible eight-movement work was inspired by Daniel’s travels through Palestine. With influences from the worlds of classical, jazz and Middle Eastern folk music, the piece encompasses a vast array of emotions and characters, reflecting the region’s tumultuous history.
Salah Elfajer is a highly improvised piece and is based upon a Middle Eastern scale. The piano improvises throughout, with the cello and cor anglais moving between improvised and written material, all three of us using extended techniques to conjure the sounds and atmosphere of the Middle East.
